Brilliant
James T Good Jr MD (jtgood@solucian.com), Professor of Medicine at NJC, 08/23/2008 Posted August 23, 2008, 1:38 PM EST: Brilliant! While The Love Ethic is a perfect title, the reader quickly appreciates that this book offers a unique insight into the meaning of life, not just a definition of right and wrong. For years I have personally struggled with ethical issues related to medicine. In my attempts to find answers I have read the great philosophers including Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, the Apostle Paul, Kant, Frankl and others. Dr. Bell succinctly reviews the key message of these brilliant philosophers ‘and many additional contemporary scholars’ and presents these ethical discussions in a crystal clear manner. He then incorporates these classic principles with his theological background to define the Love Ethic ‘Agape Love’. While this book will not appeal to everyone ‘it is not ¿light¿ reading’, it is a must read for those interested in ethics, ‘and wouldn¿t it be great if all human beings were’. In the last chapter in the book, Dr Bell dares to answer one of the most important philosophical questions facing man, ¿What Does it Mean to be Human?
